Description

Airbon replaces the need for a carbon filter in your car. It is passive and continues to work when your car is not in use, cleaning the air ready for you to step inside.

You might not think it is working but lab tests showed 1g adsorbed 997ppm of Benzene after 4 months of use – this benzene could otherwise have been inhaled.

Airbon can help make the air safer and cleaner for you and your family.

  • Removes harmful pollutants, moisture and odours from the air inside our cars
  • Made from recycled wood containing just one ingredient: micropore activated charcoal
  • Sourced from coconut shell, it is 3-4 times more effective than any other type of charcoal
  • Reduces chemical emissions in your car that can affect your health
  • Non-toxic, recyclable, fragrance-free and safe around children and pets
  • Should be replaced every 4-6 months

Replacement

As with any filtration system, eventually the activated charcoal will lose their effectiveness when it is full of toxins. We recommend replacing your car purifier every 4-6 months. How long it lasts for depends on a number of factors. For example, you may need to change it more frequently if your car is under 3 years old, you are driving on congested roads, you smoke in the car, you use chemicals to clean the car etc.

FAQs

Where is the best place to put the Airbon box?
You can put the Airbon box anywhere in the car but for optimum adsorption, we recommend placing it on the dashboard using the stick-on pads to stop it moving. Use minimal pressure to stick it in place. The space between the dashboard and the windscreen is where heat penetrates most, warming the air thus making it lighter and allowing toxins, moisture and odours to settle here more freely. Placing the box on the dashboard will get the most out of the activated charcoal.

I can't smell anything so how do I know it is working?

Airbon isn't an air freshener or perfume, both of which mask smells for a short period of time by releasing chemicals into the confined space of your car. This only works for a few hours, then the smell will be back. The activated charcoal in Airbon is non-scented and is a natural adsorber which removes chemicals and odours, leaving the air clean. It will continue to work until the surface area of the charcoal is full of adsorbed toxins. You probably won't notice the difference until around 2 weeks of opening the vacuum packaging. We know it works as we tested a 4-month old used box for adsorbed Benzene. The results will surprise you!

Can Airbon also remove the smell of cigarettes, pets and stale food from my car?
Absolutely, but please bear in mind that if the car is exceptionally smelly, you may need to double up the number of units. If you are a heavy smoker, you should open the window to keep the smell outside as much as possible.

How often should I renew my Airbon box?
We recommend replacing the Airbon box every 4-6 months. This timelag allows for variances in climate, pets, age/type of car, smoking, how frequently you operate your air conditioner and traffic. The more fumes, moisture and odours, the more frequently it will need to be replaced. Once it stops being effective, you are no longer benefiting from the ongoing removal of toxins. For more details on what you are breathing inside your car, take a look at our page on Vehicle Indoor Air Quality.

How do I dispose of the used box?
The great news is that this is fully recyclable. Once charcoal has adsorbed the pollutants, it will not release it again unless exposed to heat at 600+ degrees celsius or a chemical treatment. This means that it is safe to scatter the used charcoal into your garden so if there is any capacity for more adsorption, it can continue to work on the toxins in your soil. The wooden box can be recylced or thrown on the compost heap.

Other activated charcoal products last for 2 years with monthly reactivation in the sun so why can’t I do the same for Airbon?
All independent research we have seen indicate that charcoal can, indeed, be reactivated by temperatures above 600 degrees celsius (or it can be chemically reactivated). This is immensely hotter than the heat from a sunny day or in a domestic oven. If toxins adsorbed can be released by the sun, then imagine what would happen inside your car when parked in the sun. The activated charcoal would be repeatedly adsorbing and releasing these very same toxins back into the confined space of your car rendering it ineffective.

If I use Airbon, does this mean I don't need to worry about replacing my car filter?
Unfortunately not. Activated Charcoal will remove chemicals and odours which is the feature lacking in cars with basic or HEPA cabin filters - these filters focus on removing particle matter which is still essential for clean air. The Airbon box helps remove pretty much everything except particle matter. Remember to replace your cabin filters every 12-15,000 miles and the Airbon box every 4-6 months to provide the cleanest air possible for you and your family.

What are volatile organic compounds (VOCs)?
Volatile Organic Compounds, or VOCs, are common chemical compounds that evaporate into gasses at room temperature, compromising air quality of the air we breathe. A large majority of VOCs are from manmade chemicals used in the manufacture of typical household products and in synthetic car interiors. More information on the VOCs in your car can be found on our page Vehicle Indoor Air Quality.
